Vapor Barriers

Crawl Space Vapor Barriers

American Foundation & Basement Repairs, LLC offers the highest quality vapor barrier systems to help waterproof your crawl space. Vapor barriers are created to keep moisture out by protecting against contact with the earth and outside air. Moist crawl spaces can result in mold, dust mites, a variety of critters, and structural damage. Once mold contaminates your crawl space, it may turn into a health hazard and also damage your home's value. We have been installing vapor barriers in the Knoxville, Chattanooga, Asheville, Johnson City, and Cookeville areas for over 20 years and know which is right for you. Moisture in crawl spaces can result in mold, fungi and bugs which could eat away at wood framing.

Wet crawlspaces appeal to bugs and rodents like: termites, spiders, mice, rats in addition to snakes. It is evident that this can be a food chain effect. These critters can live inside your crawl space for generations and we've got to put a stop to it. We've got the power to prevent the moisture from getting into our homes when we focus on the source of the moisture. Sealing off a crawl space is different than a basement waterproofing because we can cover the floor and walls completely to close it off.

How The Barrier Works

A crawl space vapor barrier system involves 20-min 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with polyester-cord reinforcement. This is attached to the dirt floor and also epoxied to the wall surfaces. It is tear proof for service workers to crawl on and it is also safe to be utilized for storage-- unlike normal 6-mil plastic.

Encapsulated Crawl Space

It's also a good idea to consider crawl space encapsulation if this area beneath your home has a moisture problem and adding insulation to help control the temperatures. With an effective vapor barrier and crawl space encapsulation system in place, you can rest easy knowing that there won't be any moisture, mold, or unwanted critters in the crawl space of your home. Combined with a sump pump system like the image to the right, this is the ultimate solution for keeping water out of your home, and keeping energy bills down.
